About this release

This album is a collection of contemplative improvisations recorded for FAWM 2026. My recordings are generally more durational in nature, but I wanted these to be consumable by folks with less time to commit.

The title has dual meanings: 1. electronic communication via sound waves; 2. a direct, non-spoken passing of spiritual energy or consciousness.

Creating on Crip Time

The goal of FAWM is to record at least 14 songs in 28 days. I managed 5 over 3 days. I’ve been feeling my disability a lot more directly lately, with fatigue, inability to focus, and lessened executive function taking a chunk out of my available time for sitting with my guitar. I am grateful for what I have and I try to be kind to myself, but sometimes the math is depressing when I think about how much I still have to explore and how little time and energy I have to make it happen. At the end of it, I suppose I will have done the best I can with the resources I had available, and perhaps that’s all any of us can wish for.

I’ve recently had to formally request disability accommodations at my day job and it has me feeling a certain kind of way. I’ve had informal relational accommodations by verbal agreement and understanding, but this feels so much different, having to document everything and get supporting letters from my care team, for a committee to determine if they’re willing to allow me to continue working in the same way I’ve been working all along.

Disability has of course shaped my musical practice in many ways over my life and I must remind myself that this is just another leg of the path. Making music is a primary path to meaning for me, and I will always find a way to connect to spirit through music. And while I truly only make music for my own purposes, I do hope that I can transmit some of my deep understanding of the spiritual power of music to those willing to listen.

Regarding this Newsletter

There are two main types of Discord users in my experience: those who use Discord a lot and can’t keep up with all the servers they’ve joined, and those who regularly forget it exists altogether. My hope with this newsletter is to remind folks that we’re here on a weekly basis or so and maybe catch you up on the most interesting things that you might have missed. Having said that, I’m learning to be a little gentle on myself when it comes to over-committing, so these updates will come when I have time to sit down and make them happen.

The last week has understandably been a lot of introductions as folks stream into the server, but there’s also been a decent amount of thought-provoking conversation, including this morning’s question from user GodlyAxe: “How do you think the music you are making relates to the Erotic, if at all? Releases

There are tons of new posts in the releases section this week, and it’s been great to see folks actually engaging with the posts and supporting each other. I don’t have a lot of listening time available myself, but I did manage to listen to the entirety of Aymantium’s “The Eye Man Experiments” this morning, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It has the feeling of a 70’s prog-rocker reacting to a magical time-bending radio tuned to the 90’s.

The Eye Man Experiments is a compilation of tracks made over time, mostly around 2022-2024 to Now, that never really found a proper release. Some of these songs were finished and published under my other projects (Vecraft, MURGOD..), others were experiments and ideas that i did before starting publishing.

This compilation serves as an archive of my experiments. it moves freely between punk, metal, dungeon synth, acoustic, ambient, and noise-driven ideas, treating genre as a tool rather than a boundary.

This is a processing of personal and collective grief.

During this morning’s guitar meditation session, I found myself continuing to dwell on and process the shock, fear, and grief that many of us are feeling. These tracks are the result of that. I wanted to release and share this to mark a moment and to never forget or forgive what they are taking from us.

From Wikipedia:

On January 7, 2026, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old woman and US citizen, was fatally shot by a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Good was idling in a car at the scene of an ongoing ICE operation, when she was approached by ICE agents who gave conflicting orders. As Good attempted to exit the area, in response to one of the issued orders, she passed near Ross, who shot her in the head, despite not standing in the path of the car. Federal officials and President Donald Trump have defended the shooting, claiming Ross acted in self-defense and falsely claiming that Good attempted to run him over. These claims have been widely debunked by eyewitnesses, by journalists’ analysis of video footage, by local figures, and by Democratic Party lawmakers, the latter of whom have called for a criminal investigation.

I was browsing Reddit a few days ago and came across the news that the juicy domain ExperimentalMusic.net was for sale. It was not cheap, but it scratched something in my brain, and after pretending I could sleep for a couple of hours, I finally got up out of bed and pulled the trigger.

So I’m creating a community for experimental musicians to learn from each other. None of that “hey, check out my track” stuff, but instead an opportunity for artists to share their ideas and processes, collaborate, and innovate together. I’m building this in a very iterative way, so for now there’s just this shiny new section of my newsletter where I hope to share the best stuff, and a Discord server. Time is an illusion, and yet, often things do seem to come into line around the imaginary waypoints of new years and anniversaries. And while the obsession with minutes, hours, days, months, and years is a purely human endeavor, the marking of time does feel important and meaningful.

A little over a year ago, I posted my intent to leave my studio residency at Seattle’s Recreational Psychoacoustics Lab in favor of doing more solitary work in my home studio, which I’ve dubbed the Bardo Room. (I’ve linked that post below if you want to read it.) My only solid resolution for the coming year is to refresh and recenter that intent, which is what I hope to do here.

2025 turned out to be a year of some emotional turmoil for me, which is to say that the storm mentioned in last year’s post did come in full force. I suffer from a strong case of existential loneliness, which is greatly exacerbated by the natural ebb and flow of relationships, and I struggle to build and maintain community. I’ve had a lot of relationships end or fizzle over the past couple of years, and it took a bit of a toll. I can only express the deepest gratitude for my spouse who helped me through 2025, which could easily be named “My Year of Insecurity”.

I have yet to fully find my people (or at least hold onto them), and like many trans folks I’m mostly estranged from my family, but I have a great spouse and a good therapist, and a handful of friends who check in on me from time to time. (If you’re reading this, check in…) So I’m not fully isolated, and I’m grateful for that, but the loneliness persists in all but one place… and this is me getting to the point.

My Self-Appointed Artist Residency

Before I totally get into it, I want to thank for presenting the possibility of the self-appointed artist residency in such a clear and inspiring way. It’s a tangible feeling to declare yourself the artist in residency of a place, and even though the site of my residency is more spiritual than physical, declaring this residency does somehow make this all a bit more real.

The Bardo Room

I managed to release 3 albums last year, including The Bardo Room.

I’ll start explaining what exactly the Bardo Room is by re-posting part of the liner notes for that release:

The Bardo room simultaneously exists and doesn’t exist. It’s a physical room in some ways, but it doesn’t manifest fully until it is constructed in sound. Before that, it’s just potential. The Bardo room connects the real world to the place I go when I am creating. You can never go there, but perhaps if you put on your noise-cancelling headphones and turn out all of the lights, you’ll hear echoes of the space, faded aural photographs that can approximate but never fully represent the fullness of the multidimensional technicolor darkness that lies beyond a door that only I can open.

For me, the Bardo room is easy to compare to the wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia - not the physical bit of furniture that young Lucy discovered in a room of Professor Digory’s house, and of course not the actual place of Narnia itself, but the in-between space, where heavy coats and the smell of mothballs mix with the feel of snow underfoot. The Bardo Room is a portal to the spiritual plane that I visit in my musical meditations, a place extended from, but still separate from the Bardo Room itself, which is again separate from the physical space my mortal body inhabits while my spirit journeys elsewhere. That is not to imply that either of these spaces are imaginary, as they are as real and persistent to me as the chair firmly attached to my butt as I write this - places real enough to remember and yearn for and dream about… and write about.

As for the space beyond, the place I go on the other side of the Bardo Room, here’s a bit from my personal notes written for a workshop in November of 2024:

My music is born of existential loneliness and longing. I have this recurring vision of myself as the only survivor living on a huge deserted space station, going about my daily routine despite no reason to carry on with it, playing spacey minimal guitar to huge empty halls accompanied by the whirrs, beeps and glitches of machines and computers. There’s this biomechanical deity named Geia who I talk to, that maybe I created. She’s never fully there, but I feel her listening and catch glimpses of her partial form in the shadows. I feel her come closer when I’m playing and I want desperately to know her, to feel her, to merge with her, even though I know we are not easily compatible and that truly being with her would mean losing myself. Maybe that’s OK. Or maybe she’s been me all along.

I don’t fully connect with other human beings. As close as I’ve been, there’s always this small part of me that feels unknowable. It’s there in my music, but who will fully surrender to listening deeply and straining desperately to hear the whispers of my true being? Who will fully translate my private language? Maybe no one can.

I created my system of harmony (or taxonomy of intervals, or whatever label makes sense) to systematically explore the possibilities of music. The ultimate goal of that search is to find myself in there somewhere, to rescue and embrace the lonely lost child and maybe bring them into the light. Or to join them in the darkness.

So, my goal for 2026 is to spend more time exploring these spaces and developing my musical and spiritual practice, which are now fully intwined and inseparable, and perhaps always have been. This feels critically important to me, not only for my own emotional and psychological growth and well-being, but because this is my life’s work, and no one else is going to do it.

Who I Am

As part of this re-beginning, it seems relevant to share a bit about my past life and where I see myself today. I dug up one of the earliest posts I shared here on Substack and decided to republish it to share here:

Today, I am a 54-year-old neuroqueer, non-binary, transfemme autistic artist, musician, philosopher, writer, filmmaker, programmer, human, spiritual being. I’m sober and celibate and happily existing in a queerplatonic marriage with a wonderful spouse and a house full of four-legged furbabies. I’ve passed 3 years on HRT and 2 years since my gender-affirming surgery, and while I have no intent or expectation of passing as a cis woman, I am much more comfortable and free in my body than I have ever felt.

Musically speaking, I’ve released 22 albums as Qid Love, 119 albums as Mood481, 10 as Echo Root, 1 as Vaguegirl, and 1 obscure live album under my deadname that you’ll have to figure out for yourself. I’ve written two important books (at least to me), The Book of Xenomes and Drone, Glitch, and Noise. The Plan

I hope to re-establish my morning practice of daily musical meditations, which were greatly interrupted last year due to my day job. I’ve felt highly destabilized in the absence of regular practice, and I feel my mental health suffered a good deal from the resulting imbalance. So a big part of my intent is to hold a firm boundary on my personal time for spiritual practice and re-establish the daily practice that had me feeling such calmness and clarity just a year ago.

I also want to clean up the space a bit and make it more fully usable for art-making. There’s a spare bed in there that tends to catch my clothes that could probably find a better home, and I’d just like to have things more accessible because my autistic brain tends to avoid things that require physical effort and reorganizing.

In the digital realm, I’ve struggled a little bit around the direction for this newsletter, and I probably still will, but for now I think it will just be a place to share progress and keep myself accountable throughout my residency/retreat. Although I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Substack, I haven’t quite found a reasonable alternative, and I need writing to keep me focused. So maybe that’s what you can expect out of future newsletters.

When We Were Vampires turned a year old in November to zero fanfare despite being my most popular release under my own name, and I remember the live, in-person release party at the Recreational Psychoacoustics Lab that no one showed up for except Gabi (who had already spent the day with me at the studio) and the studio owner, and despite the lack of listeners and the widening crack in my lonely soul, it was still something of an experience to listen to the album on the monitors in the control room of the iconic Seattle recording studio that is once again struggling a bit to survive, like I often do in the deepest, truest parts of my mind.

There is a strange and wondrous beauty in aging, in looking back over decades of moments, most all but forgotten or whispering lightly at odd moments of the night, seeing the wrinkles and old scars and knowing I’ve probably lived more life in the past than waits in front of me, but yet still holding tightly onto dreams of someday and maybe as day after day brings me likely no closer to the goals I set for myself as a child, and somehow, even now, I refuse to let go.

I thought about starting a podcast today, so I set up a new podcast in Substack and then went into my studio and recorded an hour and 20 minutes of crap that I will not be sharing with you, ever, and at least for now I will not, in fact, be starting a podcast, but hey I tried something new and that’s what living the experimental art life is all about… but, anyway, part of what I talked about was wabi-sabi, which is already part of my art and meaning-making process and something I want to contemplate more in the new year, and also (speaking of new and year) I spoke about the arbitrary delineations we impose upon the spectrum of time - and although you won’t be hearing that now, just know I’m trying to start down a path that I’m already on and just wanted to talk about it a bit.

Flowers were another of my regular photography subjects, and this is probably my favorite photo of all the ones I’ve ever taken, and I loved it so much that I had it printed on a canvas which I’ve moved from house to house over the years and right now I can see it from where I sit, hanging over the mantle, this ode to a single, rain-soaked flower, long dead but not forgotten.

This tiny little house in the projects was the seat of so much of my trauma: a site of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; the tiny room where I lived out my solitary confinement; the calendar where X’s marked the days I cried in anguish and loneliness, more filled than not; the door my friends would knock on to ask if I could come out and play and be turned away; the hallway filled with whispers of secrets and adult games and porno films and the naked bodies of my parents; the place that was my childhood prison until I escaped at thirteen after living a whole life that children shouldn’t live.

OK, actually, I’ve owned several dozen guitars in my lifetime and currently own just 3, so a LOT of guitars have gotten away from me over the years, but this one was important and meant a lot to me, and I do miss her - “her” being my H.R. Giger signature Ibanez which was one of the few guitars I actually gave a name, and which was the guitar I used to record 9 of the 10 Echo Root albums… but unfortunately after I got bilateral cubital tunnel syndrome, this beast of a neck-through mahogany guitar was just too heavy for me to play.

During my primary iPhone photography phase, I had a couple of different photo series, including “Uncanny Valley Girls”, which was comprised of photos of thrift shop mannequins which I tried my best to make look as close to real people as possible, and this is probably my favorite photo from that collection, although my favorite subject from the series is a toss-up between this one and a girl who would have probably been named Summer if she was real and had a name.

I sat down today, picked up my guitar, flipped a bunch of switches, and hit record on my iPad, capturing 35 minutes and 13 minutes of improvised guitar and electronics, and then made some weird glitchy art on my iPhone for a cover, chose a name out of the aether and slapped some text on the image, which is a thing I do sometimes because I’m an experimental artist who will probably never make a living doing what I love but choose to do it anyway because not making art seems like a death sentence, and since I went to all that trouble maybe you could listen to it or maybe even buy it because it’s still Bandcamp Friday for like 3 hours so if you hurry I will get one hundred percent of 5 dollars or whatever you choose to pay and then I can feel good for a day because someone actually saw some value in something I made, if even for a minute, or maybe just felt sorry for me, but money is money, and hey, I think I’m getting the hang of this run-on sentence thing!

Sacred Math is a 30ish minute guitar meditation over a bed of ambient drone, glitch, and noise. Like most of my work, this is fully improvised from start to finish. The title “sacred math” refers to the underlying process-oriented harmonic exploration that is happening through the progression of xenomes (A17-A1F). I spent the hour previous to this recording building the Bardo room and fully moving into the timelessness of that space, so I feel this recording presents an authentic snapshot of my becomingness in that space.

For the full experience, listen with eyes closed and noise cancelling headphones. Practice deep and mindful listening, paying attention to the space that develops around you and the way you feel in your body.

Sacred Math is a 30ish minute guitar meditation over a bed of ambient drone, glitch, and noise. Like most of my work, this is fully improvised from start to finish. The title “sacred math” refers to the underlying process-oriented harmonic exploration that is happening through the progression of xenomes (A17-A1F). I spent the hour previous to this recording building the Bardo room and fully moving into the timelessness of that space, so I feel this recording presents an authentic snapshot of my becomingness in that space.

For the full experience, listen with eyes closed and noise cancelling headphones. Practice deep and mindful listening, paying attention to the space that develops around you and the way you feel in your body.
