this is really cool Qid! I assume you do a lot of cinematic scoring also because I can hear this as a really cool indie film score. What is a xenome though? Music theory is not my strength π
Thank you! Perhaps I should score more films. So far I've only actually written music for my own short films!
Xenomes are my invention, my own system for naming scales. A xenome basically represents a specific set of notes. There are very few systems for cataloging all of the possible scales that can be used in the 12-tet system (i.e. stuff you could play on a piano), and really only one besides mine that I've found that doesn't use some arbitrary system for designating scales. I'm putting the finishing touches on a short book about it now, and there's a documentary in the works as well. :D
I would consider it in tandem. Lydian would be AB5 in my system, for example. However, there arenβt common names for all of the possible scales, so something like my system becomes necessary to fully and systematically explore harmony. Another benefit of my system over common names is that you can actually determine the notes in the scale directly from the name. π€
Hey Qid, I'm really liking this album and the exploration/experimentation that you talk about. The theory is beyond my knowledge but I like magical mystery too. I came to this after watching your conversation on dedicate your life to music, super thought provoking stuff. You cat's were I unreally real; cutting to the core. I like what you said about the now and prescence of performances that can't be captured. Small and intimate are the kinda shows I'm into and with experimental music that's what a person can expct, so yay! I shall be listening.
