The Bardo Room
This freshly constructed aural space contains 35 minutes of liminal ambient atmosphere as temporary respite from the agony of existence. Please listen with headphones on and eyes closed to avoid inter-spatial blurring. Take care of yourself, and thanks for listening.
The Bardo room simultaneously exists and doesn’t exist. It’s a physical room in some ways, but it doesn’t manifest fully until it is constructed in sound. Before that, it’s just potential. The Bardo room connects the real world to the place I go when I am creating. You can never go there, but perhaps if you put on your noise-cancelling headphones and turn out all of the lights, you’ll hear echoes of the space, faded aural photographs that can approximate but never fully represent the fullness of the multidimensional technicolor darkness that lies beyond a door that only I can open.
About the Album
Most mornings I get up, head to my little corner studio, and spend an hour meditating with my guitar. Some days I hit record. Today was one of those days.
There are a bunch of toys on here that I haven’t used in a while, plus it’s the first appearance of my new ASM Hydrasynth Explorer (in sexy, limited-edition orange). If you have a keen eye, you might have noticed the now-extinct Alchemy Mobile in the cover photo. It’s running on a first-gen iPad Air that will eventually die, and then I will be sad. There are a handful of other extinct apps on there, including SpaceWiz.
The theremin sounds are coming from NADA running on my Macbook Air, controlled by Gestrument on the big iPad over Bluetooth. It’s kind of nice to have everything hooked up and talking to each other again. I ran a pretty light rig last year because I was tearing everything down to head to the studio every couple of weeks. Now that I’m stationary for a while, I can play with all the things.
Enjoy!
