About this release
This album is a collection of contemplative improvisations recorded for FAWM 2026. My recordings are generally more durational in nature, but I wanted these to be consumable by folks with less time to commit.
The title has dual meanings: 1. electronic communication via sound waves; 2. a direct, non-spoken passing of spiritual energy or consciousness.
Creating on Crip Time
The goal of FAWM is to record at least 14 songs in 28 days. I managed 5 over 3 days. I’ve been feeling my disability a lot more directly lately, with fatigue, inability to focus, and lessened executive function taking a chunk out of my available time for sitting with my guitar. I am grateful for what I have and I try to be kind to myself, but sometimes the math is depressing when I think about how much I still have to explore and how little time and energy I have to make it happen. At the end of it, I suppose I will have done the best I can with the resources I had available, and perhaps that’s all any of us can wish for.
I’ve recently had to formally request disability accommodations at my day job and it has me feeling a certain kind of way. I’ve had informal relational accommodations by verbal agreement and understanding, but this feels so much different, having to document everything and get supporting letters from my care team, for a committee to determine if they’re willing to allow me to continue working in the same way I’ve been working all along.
Disability has of course shaped my musical practice in many ways over my life and I must remind myself that this is just another leg of the path. Making music is a primary path to meaning for me, and I will always find a way to connect to spirit through music. And while I truly only make music for my own purposes, I do hope that I can transmit some of my deep understanding of the spiritual power of music to those willing to listen.
